Why do Pre-finished wood floors have a harder finish?
A factory finish floor can have as many as 7-10 layers of polyurethane with aluminum oxide. A job site finish can only have 2-3 coatings applied.
Why are some pre-finished wood floors considered green as well as more economical?
Some pre-finished wood floors are engineered, which means the top layer of wood is a thinner layer of a particular wood species over several plys of a less expensive and less endangered woods. This makes it more economical and MORE GREEN. It also gives the wood a more dimentionaly stable product for homes in dryer climates.
Can I refinish prefinished wood products?
Yes, A pre-finished wood floor can be re-finished if the goal is to change the original color of the floor. In most instances however the floor merely needs to be lightly screened and coated to spruce up the appearance of your floor.
Can pre-finished floors be laid below grade?
Yes! That is one great thing about pre-finished flooring. The installation method used in the application is called “ Floating” and is put together in a tongue and groove fashion. So you can have the special dance floor in the basement like you always wanted.
